Stranded

Zimbell House Publishing is holding open submissions for short stories about what would happen if stranded on a deserted island. How did your character get there? Who is with your character? Is the island truly deserted or simply uncharted? Does your character die there, get rescued, or saves him/herself? How does your character survive? Can the island sustain life or is it depleted of natural resources?

We want ’em all, short-stories to novellas, that feature these questions and more. Let’s have some fun with the characters. Are they bent on revenge?  Do they fall in love? We want fully developed characters with plots that capture the imagination.

Submissions of both short stories and novellas to this anthology are welcome, please keep in mind the minimum word count is 3,500 and the maximum word count is 20,000.

This anthology is a great opportunity to showcase emerging writers and allow them to build their professional platforms.

Children of Zeus

Zimbell House Publishing is holding open submissions for short stories about Zeus’s children. These mythic tales can be from either Zeus’s POV or from the child’s. Is the child a full god-immortal? Do they get along with his other children, what about their mother’s family? Any human siblings? What does Zeus’s wife, Hera, think? How does the child evolve through the centuries?

We want ’em all, short-stories to novellas, that feature these questions and more. Let’s have some fun with the characters. Are they bent on revenge?  Do they fall in love? Welcome to the Retreat

Let the Adventure Begin

Zimbell House Publishing is holding open submissions for short stories about going on a retreat. These tales can be about a couples retreat, a company retreat, a private getaway, or even a writing retreat. The entire short story must take place at the retreat itself, no going off the grounds. The characters don’t have to be tied to only guests, let the staff get involved in the story, it can even be from a staffer’s POV. Is this a fancy hotel? A private home? A series of villas? Where is the retreat located? How long is the retreat? What services do they offer? Does someone die? Fall in love? Find self-fulfillment? What is the purpose of the retreat? Is it for introspection? To get work done? To bond with co-workers? Show our readers what’s happening rather than telling, by this we mean don’t bog down your story with too much narrative.

We want ’em all, short-stories to novellas, that feature these questions and more. Let’s have some fun with the characters.  We want fully developed characters with plots that capture the imagination.

Submissions of both short stories and novellas to this anthology are welcome, please keep in mind the minimum word count is 4,000 and the maximum word count is 20,000. We will not read submissions under the stated minimum word count.

A Nymph’s Tale: A Collection of Whimsical Fables

Zimbell House Publishing is holding open submissions for short stories about the wee folk. These tales of fantasy should be spun including characters such as nymphs, fairies, pixies, elves, leprechauns, and other magical creatures.  No giants, trolls, vampires or shape-shifters please. Humans are allowed. These fables should contain a lesson learned or otherwise have a moral to the story. A cautionary tale, a virtue learned, these are the tales we are looking to include.
